A Nation Tested: Remembering January 6, 2021
It was not enough that he incited a mob to try to overturn an election he rightfully lost. It wasn’t enough for him to be charged with rape. It wasn’t enough for him to make history as the first President to be impeached twice. When you’re white and male, nothing is enough to hold you back from success

January 6, 2021 was a pivotal moment in American history. Four years ago today, a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol in a way we had never seen before. Afterward, many started drawing comparisons to the Black Lives Matter movement, as peaceful protesters were often met with violence. Yet, when it came to a white mob storming the capital, they were met with praise. Notably, Donald Trump told them, “We love you” just before asking them to go home. This is the same person who said “When the looting starts, the shooting starts” amid the George Floyd protests a year earlier. These contradictions are not just limited to his response to different forms of protest. Another major contradiction associated with Trump is the treatment of his sentencing. Barack Obama was scrutinized for many things – including his tan suit. Yet, when it comes to Trump, he is able to escape criticism for more serious offenses. In this retrospective video, we look at Trump’s first presidency retrospectively to prepare ourselves for his next one.
