Description
This is the resistance, as told by Black women. After the first Great War, Oculus went under siege by the “serpent King” Jonathon Vulgari. 18 years later, the leaders of the “fempires” attempt to regain political power by any and all means. For Zola, this means venturing on an impossible mission with a man she barely knows. For Madame Rue, this is arming her people for war. With the help of friends and allies, the Queen Suits will take back what is rightfully theirs.
Javanna Plummer is a career writer. With this fourth book on her shelf, she has gotten the hang of world-building. Yet, in this story, she delves deeper into the landscape by creating Oculus. This world is under attack for daring to create fempires, and this is an allegory to real-life attacks on women’s rights. As a feminist and a womanist, Javanna wanted to create a world where Black women ruled.

Adrienne Plummer –
It was good to see female characters in the lead. Now that Donald Trump is in office, it’s refreshing to see women overcome. It was good to see female empowerment in this novel. Kudos Javanna for portraying women in a positive light. When we conjoin our inherent power, we win 👊🏾🎉🎊.

Chaos and Magic is a great addition to the Afro-Futuristic world. Each character had their own distinct personality and story within the story. Javanna weaved together a tale of black feminism and freedom. Through creating powerful female characters, she allowed the readers to embark on a journey of seeing a changing narrative. This was a really fast-paced read – there is no shortage of action!! Must Buy 🙂
